You know it’s going to be one of those days when your oatmeal boils over in the microwave, your printer refuses to print your Christmas card addresses in the center of the labels, you realize after signing, labeling, stamping and sealing one hundred and fifty Christmas cards that your husband put the stamps on the wrong side of the envelopes, and you get home to find your Christmas tree that was leaning slightly when you left has now FALLEN COMPLETELY TO THE FLOOR.

My husband and children were very scared that Christmas wasn’t going to happen this year, but after a little retail therapy and this yummy Chai Yai Yai hot toddy, I was able to regroup and re-trim the tree so Santa would have a place to put the gifts.  So Christmas did happen after all and the holidays are now behind, and I just have to say…

“Chai Yai Yai”!

Chai Yai Yai Cocktail

Ingredients:

1 tea bag chai tea
8 oz. hot water
3 oz. milk
1 oz. bourbon
1/4 oz. amaretto (an almond-flavored liqueur)
1/4 oz. Grand Marnier (an orange-flavored liqueur)
Lemon wedge
3 whole cloves

Preparation:

  1. Brew tea in 8 ounces of hot water for three to four minutes.
  2. Remove tea bag.
  3. In a saucepan, combine the tea mixture and milk and simmer, stirring occasionally.
  4. Pour into a coffee mug.
  5. Add bourbon, amaretto and Grand Marnier.
  6. Stir briefly.
  7. Stud lemon wedge with the cloves and add to mixture.
