{Tuesdays With Dorie} Swedish Chef And Mrs. Vogel’s Scherben

Mrs. Vogel’s Scherben brought to you by the Swedish Chef:

swedish chef doughnuts

Well, maybe not quite Scherben, but close.

It felt a little Swedish Chef-ish to make this week’s Tuesdays with Dorie recipe, since it was something a little crazy and unusual.  A little ball of dough made from a small amount of butter, a tiny bit of sugar, a pinch of salt, one egg and a little flour and baking powder is then rolled out and cut into funky shapes and then deep fried.  The fried ‘shards’ are then covered in cinnamon sugar and powdered sugar to make a crispy and sweet and slightly addictive snack.

I wasn’t sure about them at first, but they grew on me and I found myself picking the last little pieces out of the sugar from the bottom of the bag.

Teanna of Spork or Foon? was the host this week, and you can find recipe there if you want to try these.

Hmmm, what can I fry next . . . maybe doughnuts?

  1. OH! I used to imitate the Swedish Chef when I was a little girl…”hurly, burly, durly…” Oh, it doesn’t get much better than the muppets-or that scherben of yours. It looks fantastic!

  2. I miss those old Muppet Shows…”It’s time to dress up right….for the Muppet Show Tonight!” Love your Scherben and love that plate, shows them off perfectly.

  3. Love the video! It was a big treat to watch “The Muppet Show” when I was a kid. Your scherben look yummy; if min had turned out that nice I’m sure I wouldn’t have been able to stop eating them.

  4. I love the picture you took and the plate is beautiful too! Your video is a perfect fit and the Muppets are such a favorite for memories =). I used to watch the muppets with Grandpa way back when. You are right about easy to munch on but I am not so sure the little crispy treats will make it as a favorite.

  5. Those are lovely. I meant meant meant to make these this week and I totally let the time get away from me!! Glad you liked the ginger chicken as well!! Have a great weekend.

  6. The Swedish Chef video is so funny! The Mrs. Vogel’s Scherben was even better though. It was very addicting. I couldn’t stop eating it!
