World Tour Day Five Almond Whiskey Sour Cocktail

World Tour Day Five:  Italy.

I am in search of a signature cocktail.  Something that I can order at any bar, or have someone make for me at their house, or that I can throw together at cocktail hour.  Something that is simple to make, includes a few fairly common ingredients, and that will please me when I’m not in the mood for a special drink.  And most of all, something that says “KAREN”.

At the moment, this drink is the one I have been making on a regular basis.  I had seen a recipe for a cocktail called the Stiletto, with bourbon, amaretto and lemon juice that sounded good.  But the bourbon was running low and the Canadian whiskey wasn’t, so I put that in instead, e voila! the Almond Whiskey Sour.

Even though it does have Canadian whiskey in it, it’s also made with amaretto, which is an Italian creation.  I used Amaretto Di Amore specifically, in honor of this month’s holiday (hence the heart napkin).  The almond-flavored liqueur gives the drink enough sweetness not to need any added sugar, and it adds a great nutty flavor to this sweet and sour drink.

Sweet and sour…does that say “KAREN”?

  1. I’m having a love affair with whiskey right now so I think this may be on my to do list. I’m trying to enjoy lemon juice in moderation too but I just keep gravitating to drinks with it. Deelish!
